HOW VILLICOTE® WORKS
In a patient with symptoms of inflammatory bowel disease Villicote can help promote a healthy intestinal lining. The mode of action is distinct from conventional antiinflammatory therapies in that Villicote augments tissue repair mechanism by providing the metabolic fuel for fibroblasts and epithelial glycosaminoglycan synthesis. The active ingredient in Villicote, N-acetylglucosamine bypasses many of the enzymatic steps required to produce the saccharide side chains of mucin. This means that the intestinal mucosal cell is able to make more mucin with less energy.
